Does Low Priced Insurance Provide Adequate Travel Cover?

A low priced insurance policy is ideal if you are travelling on a budget and you need your cover to be just as cost effective as your holiday. However, is it really as good as you think it is?

It makes sense to be cautious when booking cover for your holiday. There would be nothing worse than losing your luggage, being robbed, or falling ill and trying to claim on your low priced insurance policy only to find it doesn’t cover you for as much as you thought it did. So with that in mind, let’s focus on what you really need to know.

Will it cover you in an emergency?

No one wants to think anything drastic could happen while you’re living it up on holiday – or anytime else for that matter. But every year many holidaymakers fall ill or have an accident that results in them needing to be repatriated home for treatment – and sometimes this can involve an air ambulance.

If this did happen to you or a member of your family, the medical costs would soon start spiralling upwards. This would probably be the last thing on your mind, but those bills would still need to be paid. You need to make sure the low priced insurance policy you have your eye on provides suitable cover if this should happen. Think in terms of millions just to be sure – this isn’t an area you want to skimp on.

What about the excesses?

Travel policies have much in common with all other types in terms of excesses applied when you do need to make a claim. Low priced insurance may be cheaper because those excesses are higher than they would otherwise be on higher priced options. You should check on an individual basis to see whether you would be prepared to pay the specified excess in that situation. For example, an excess of £150 if you had to cancel a holiday worth £5,000 would be fair enough; but that same excess on a budget holiday of £250 would be a different thing altogether. Only you can decide whether you are happy with the excesses applied to the policy you are considering.

You can see why it is so important to shop around for appropriate travel cover. While many of the cheapest policies are ideal for the needs of those who book them, you shouldn’t automatically think this is the case. Indeed, if you spend a little longer checking the small print and details provided, you will find it much easier to get a cost effective deal that is cheap yet still covers everything you need it to. This might sound like a lot of hard work, but when you consider how priceless peace of mind really is you will be glad you put the time and effort in.
